Never eaten here before, but heard wonderful things. Located on the sea front on Gorey coast road, so parking is difficult. Be warned. You definitely need to make a reservation here. It is busy and vibrant. It is referred to as a food house., but this is an understatement. The Bass and Lobster has more of a gourmet pub feel about it, than a food house. It is chic and relaxed. A little small. Well it was busy, and full. The tables a little small, but a pure delight nonetheless. It was busy but the staff were incredibly welcoming and offered us a drink at the bar whilst they arranged the table. Great idea.

The menu is a homage to seasonal food, Jersey’s local seafood and the finest quality of meat. This is one establishment where the chic décor was left far behind the fresh tasting assembly of delights that was being served.

Latching onto the current craze for gourmet eating in Jersey, all aspects of the menu were a celebrated with an extravaganza of seafood and meat dishes. The attention to detail and food presentation was exquisite. Good portion sizes too.
Despite being busy the service was excellent, with efficient waiters that knew the menu well.

The Tempura of King Prawn and Squid was light, and crispy and pan seared Jersey Scallops was simply perfect. This was followed with the 28-day matured Irish sirloin of beef with roasted cherry vine tomatoes, mushroom, truffle and parmesan homemade chips, beer battered onion rings, mix salad and a sticky veal glaze. This was perfection on another level: succulent and full of flavour. Simply superb. They have a fabulous selection of homemade ice creams. Very impressive.

Ordinarily, at this point of the review, I would be launching into a rant about the chef, food and customer service. Not here. This is by far one of the best eateries on the island. There are a lot of restaurants competing at this level in the culinary world of Jersey. The Bass and Lobster, knocks the ball out of the park. Home Run. They were busy, but they delivered with superb service, hot and fabulous food. A Blue Peter badge perhaps??? Oh no, an Oscar for the Bass and Lobster.
